The City of Peoria's annual Arbor Day tree plantings, originally scheduled for a different date, have been rescheduled for 1 pm on Tuesday, May 7, at RiverFront Festival Park near the Gateway Building. The event aims to involve residents in commemorating Arbor Day.
The plantings, organized in collaboration with the South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria, the Peoria Garden Club, and the Peoria Park District, will also take place at Sinclair Grove near Constitution Garden and the Peoria Fire Department Central Fire Station.
Peoria's commitment to urban forestry has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation, earning the city the prestigious designation as a Tree City USA for the 31st time. This recognition highlights Peoria's dedication to promoting green spaces and managing urban forests effectively.
Notably, in 2023, the City of Peoria, in partnership with the Energy Efficiency Tree Planting Pilot Initiative from Ameren Illinois, planted nearly 200 trees, demonstrating a proactive approach to enhancing the city's green footprint.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the rescheduled tree plantings on May 7 and contribute to the city's ongoing efforts in promoting urban forestry and environmental sustainability.
